Our coaches are a young and energetic group who do a great job of relating to the kids and helping them develop to their full potential. The coaches focus on individual skill development and helping kids make the right decisions on and off the basketball court. We have provided boys teams in the Sterling area for 10 years, and are going into our 3rd year of providing this experience for girls as well. The Magic Program is directed by Tanner Carlson (bio down below).

Tanner Carlson- Co-Director: Tanner has been a part of the Magic on staff for 9 years now. He is also a Head Boys Varsity Basketball Coach and AD at Central City High School, near Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Tanner has a great relationship with many college coaches which helps ensure players will get the exposure/guidance they need to play at the next level. Tanner scored over 2,000 career high school points (Annawan High School and Lincoln Trail Conference's career points record holder),  and was named All-State 3 years. Tanner played college basketball at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and Knox College. He was awarded All-Conference recognition for 2 years as a Point Guard for Knox College.

Ray Sharp- Co-Director:  Ray has been a part of the Magic since the beginning. He and his son AJ (17U Elite Boys Coach and Sauk Valley Community College Head Coach) experienced the Magic as a parent/player before both joining the staff as coaches. Ray is the Head Boys Basketball Coach at Newman Central Catholic High School in Sterling and in 2018 Coach Sharp led his team to the state tournament and finished 3rd Place. He also has been named Coach of the Year on multiple occasions.
